7 Things You’re Probably..

7 Things You’re Probably Forgetting to Clean

Your home might look clean, but some of the most-used spots are easy to overlook. Here are seven places that deserve a little more attention.

You vacuum the floors.

You wipe the kitchen counters.

You clean the bathroom.

So why can your home still feel like it needs a proper clean?

Sometimes, it’s the little things.

There are plenty of areas around the home that don’t immediately catch your eye—but they collect dust, fingerprints, grime, and everyday buildup just the same.

Here are seven commonly forgotten spots to add to your cleaning list.

1. Light switches

Think about how many times you touch a light switch throughout the day.

Now think about how rarely you actually clean it.

Light switches and switch plates are high-touch areas that can easily collect fingerprints and grime.

A quick wipe during your regular cleaning routine can make a surprising difference.

2. Door handles

Just like light switches, door handles are touched constantly.

Front doors, bathroom doors, bedroom doors, cupboard handles—you probably touch dozens of them without even thinking about it.

Add them to your regular wipe-down routine, especially the handles used most frequently.

3. Under the sofa

Out of sight, out of mind.

Until you move the sofa.

Dust, crumbs, pet hair, and all sorts of things can find their way underneath furniture.

You don’t necessarily need to move every piece of furniture every week, but giving those hidden areas some attention during a deeper clean can make your home feel noticeably fresher.

4. Behind appliances

The areas behind and around appliances can easily become forgotten.

Your fridge, washing machine, cooker, and other large appliances can collect dust and debris around their edges and underneath.

Whenever it’s safe and practical to do so, include these areas in your deeper cleaning routine.

5. Skirting boards

Skirting boards are one of those things you stop noticing—until they’re dusty.

Because they’re close to the floor, they can collect dust and debris surprisingly quickly.

A quick dusting every couple of weeks can help keep them looking fresh.

6. Your bins

Yes, even the bin needs cleaning.

Changing the bag regularly is important, but the inside and outside of the bin can also benefit from an occasional clean.

Give your bins a proper wipe-down and disinfect them as appropriate for the material.

It’s one of those small jobs that makes your kitchen feel much cleaner.

7. The things you use every day

Here’s the bigger lesson:

If you touch it every day, it probably deserves to be cleaned regularly.

Think about:

  • Remote controls

  • Phones

  • Keyboard and mouse

  • Appliance handles

  • Cabinet handles

  • Taps

  • Fridge doors

You don’t need to obsessively clean every object in your home.

Just become more aware of the surfaces you interact with most.

Don’t let the small things become a big thing

A clean home isn’t necessarily about cleaning everything, every day.

It’s about having a system.

Keep up with your regular cleaning, pay attention to high-touch areas, and occasionally give those forgotten spaces some extra love.

And when you don’t have the time—or simply don’t want to spend your free time cleaning—that’s where professional help can make a difference.
